Guelman Und Unbekannt Gallery Presents: “Pseudomnesia / Trauma Porn” - An Exhibition by Boris Eldagsen featuring Tanvir Taolad

Guelman Und Unbekannt Gallery is honored to announce the upcoming exhibition “Pseudomnesia / Trauma Porn” by renowned photomedia artist Boris Eldagsen in collaboration with Dhaka-based artist Tanvir Taolad. The exhibition opens on November 17 and will run through November 25, 2023.

Boris Eldagsen, a notable figure in the intersection of photography and digital media, alongside his collaborator Tanvir Taolad, embarks on an explorative journey into the realm of pseudo memories and trauma depicted through a unique amalgamation of generative art and historical narrative.

“Pseudomnesia / Trauma Porn” is a daring venture that intertwines the visual narratives of the 1940s and post-war photography with the contemporary discourse of abstract art, drawing a compelling line from the inception of generative art to the cutting-edge generative-AI of today. Eldagsen’s “promptographs” are crafted through a sophisticated workflow that integrates #textprompts, #blend, #imageprompts, with #inpainting and #outpainting techniques.

The centerpiece, “Trauma Porn,” is an experimental installation co-created with Tanvir Taolad. This piece delves into the long-term impacts of war-induced trauma, utilizing AI to reinterpret historical photos from World War II and Nazi Germany. The installation is a triptych that represents the psychological journey of a follower through attraction to a totalitarian regime, the ravages of war, and the ensuing trauma.

The inception of “Trauma Porn” dates back over two decades, rooted in the personal history of Eldagsen and the wartime experiences of his father. This collection of Wehrmacht soldiers’ photographs forms the foundation for an AI-mediated expression of historical trauma. This work also encompasses Eldagsen’s controversial AI-generated image “The Electrician,” which sparked a global conversation on AI in art.

This exhibition is not only a reflection of the artists' personal and creative explorations but also serves as a dedication to Ukraine, resonating with the ongoing discourse on war and its traumatic aftermath.

Guelman Und Unbekannt Gallery invites you to experience this profound exhibition that challenges conventional perceptions and opens up a dialogue on the spiritual state through the lens of art and technology.

We look forward to welcoming you to an experience that promises to be as enlightening as it is emotive.
